Varanus Acanthurus

  

Overview
The varanus acanthurus is a medium sized member of the subgenera Odatria. They are also known as Ridge Tail or Spiney Tail Goannas. The Varanus Acanthurus is usually 60 to 70 cm in length.

Housing
The Ackies are housed in cages build from shuttering plywood 125 cm long, 75 cm wide and 60 cm high. I use as substrate sand loam mix (10:1).

Temperatures
The temerature gradient varies between 24-26 degrees Celcius on the cool side with a basking site of 45-50 degrees Celcius.

Lighting
The light period being used is 12hrs on and 12hrs off

Feeding
I feed my Ackies about 3 times a week, they get three feeds of Cockroaches (Blaptica Dubia) and sometime a baby mouse, grasshoppers or cricket as a variation.
